Northwestern is recognized worldwide for its contributions and capabilities in the area of photonics, particularly for technologies and systems related to fiber-optic quantum networks, quantum frequency conversion, and entanglement-preserving photonic switching. Next-generation quantum devices require integration of photonics and quantum electronics, which are enabled by new discoveries at Northwestern that control the interaction of light and matter via engineered electromagnetic environments, magno-electric devices, and novel methods to integrate photonic circuits.
